19 Excuses for New Moms to Post Just One More Photo of That Baby

I never wanted to be that mom … you know the one I’m talking about.

That mom that’s always posting pictures of her baby on Facebook.

In a typical day she may post a picture of her baby sleeping … and then another one of him in the stroller … and then that super cute one with food all over his face … and then (cause why not) another one of him splashing around in the bathtub.

Before becoming a mother, I’d always rather enjoyed the adorable baby pictures all over my Newsfeed – but I always knew the stigma about “new moms.”

But now that I’m actually a new mother myself, I totally relate to these women.

I’ve never really been an active picture poster/status updater … but then I had a baby

If by some miracle you’ve managed not to become this very typical new mom, I applaud you – and on behalf of your Facebook friends, you probably deserve a “thank you” as well.

For the rest of us crazy mamas, you’re welcome in advance. The next time your childless friends give you crap about posting a bazillion photos of your littles – share this article with them and rest assured knowing that they too may be in your shoes one day! 🙂

19 Excuses to Post Just One More Photo of That Baby

  1. You’re on maternity leave

Newborns eat, sleep, and poop. There’s not a whole lot of “play time” at this age. And if you’re nursing you’ve got a whole lot of “couch time.” This is the perfect opportunity to jump on Facebook and upload the latest picture of your baby – the one where he looks soo darn cute.

  1. You’re at work and you miss your baby

Maybe you’re already back at work and your caregiver or daycare just sent you a picture of your baby. You miss that baby so much, and you just got this great picture – obviously it should be shared! 🙂

  1. There are so many firsts!

This is one of the things I love most about babies! Everything is new and exciting to them … and there are so many milestones! From grabbing things, to rolling over, and sitting unsupported – each and every milestone is just as exciting as the last and you’ve got that new mom pride. Your little human is able to do all these things – and let’s face it – the world would be better off knowing about these little victories!

  1. Because tiny clothes are the cutest!

Who doesn’t love buying clothes for babies?! Your kid probably has more clothes than you do … and they’re all so small and cute. Add in the bows, hats, and other adorable accessories and forget about it – you don’t stand a chance at going a day without posting another baby picture. There are at least a few hundred excuses to get your little one all dressed up, hanging in that nursery closet!

  1. Your pets & your babies

If you had a dog or cat before you had a baby, you probably loved and treated them like your children. And then your baby came along and stole your heart. But now, your little loves are getting along – and this needs to be shared on Facebook! Babies and dogs cuddling – simply the cutest!!

  1. Seasonal pictures

Is it winter? Those adorable sweaters, hats, and mittens make the perfect photo opp. Or maybe it’s summer and time to break out the swimsuit. A baby girl in a bikini – my goodness it doesn’t get much cuter than that! And a baby boy with swim trunks and a muscle tee – simply makes your heart melt. Certainly your friends would find this update worthy, yes?

  1. Holidays

Christmas (photos with Santa Claus), Easter (first time meeting the Easter bunny), Thanksgiving (the gobble ‘til you wobble shirts), First Birthday (smashing a cake photo), Mother’s Day (mommy and me pictures), Father’s Day (Daddy’s little girl/Daddy’s tough little guy pictures)… and the list goes on. Every holiday is just one more reason to post pictures of that baby!

  1. Play dates with play mates

Your friends have kids. And now your friend’s baby and your baby are playing. You swear they will be BFFs or maybe you’re already planning their wedding, either way these moments are adorable and must be posted about!

  1. Second child guilt

You may have just had a second or third child. You obviously don’t have the time you used to, but you want everyone in your network to know you love this baby as much as the first one – so you need to post pictures of baby #2 – to even up the scorecard (you know?).

  1. Sibling love

You love that your older child and new baby are getting along so well. You take pictures of them cuddling, kissing each other, playing together – and this makes your heart sing! Another reason to post a photo on Facebook.

  1. Smiling

Baby smiles are the best – each and every one of these should be shared.

  1. Laughing

The only thing better than baby smiles, are baby laughs. If you get a video of your baby cracking up over something as simple as peek-a-boo – by all means share this!! It will make just about anyone’s day better.

  1. Babies & their relatives

The people you love also love your baby! Isn’t it cool that your little one is so-loved? Your Facebook friends need to see the village your baby has! Post photos of your baby with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends, people you meet while running errands, your pool guy … you get the idea. Any and every reason is a great one to post just one more photo of that baby!

  1. Outings

All the outings you go on with your baby are new and fun! Also great photo opportunities. The first time your baby can sit in the shopping cart. The first time your baby goes on a swing at the park. First time baby goes to the beach – you get the idea … again lots of firsts!

  1. Road Trips

Taking a road trip with a baby – this definitely warrants a status update! You’ll likely put together some kind of post about driving 15+ hours with an infant, and ask your network for support and ideas on how to make it through the trip with your sanity still in tact.

  1. Plane Trips

You’re taking that baby on a plane? You’ll probably post about this as well. You’ll want your friends and family to encourage you, and offer you their words of wisdom and support. After all, what kind of crazy person takes a baby on a plane?!

  1. Crawling

I’m personally still waiting on my little one to master this skill – once he hits this milestone, you better believe I’ll be posting videos all over the internet about my clever little dude.

  1. Walking

Oh my! Your baby is on the go! You’ll post about how tired you are and what you need to baby proof your house – and you’ll likely have a lot of posts about the mischief your little one is getting into.

  1. Talking

That babbling soon turns into words – and what an exciting time! You’ll post about your baby’s first words and as he/she moves into toddlerhood and you’ll be sharing the “darndest things” your baby says for quite some time.

And this is all just in the first year!

You’ll also be posting about starting day care, then school, sleepovers at grandma’s house, getting your baby’s first dog, your kid’s first report card… and so on and so on.

When I was pregnant, people were always telling me how fast it goes, and so I’ve always tried to be in the moment and enjoy my time with my little one.

I’m realizing now, they do grow up way too fast. So I just want to encourage all us mamas to cherish the time with our babies – and if we want to post about our little ones – I say we do it!

So let’s keep on, keeping on – and fill up those newsfeeds with precious smiling baby faces!

Listen, I gotta run – I have this great picture I need to upload … 😉
